Bowflex SelectTech 1090 Single Adjustable Dumbbell Review

Often, dumbbells come in sets of 2 - one for each hand. With the SelectTech 1090 product by Bowflex, you are actually able to break the set up and buy a single dumbbell for less than the cost of a full set!

But why would you do this? Well, not all dumbbell exercises require you to use both arms at the same time. In fact, you can almost do any biceps or triceps exercise in existence with just a single dumbbell.

Bowflex has realized that for some consumers, one adjustable dumbbell is enough - and they have therefore made the SelectTech 1090 available in single form. Not only does this reduce the price, it also provides you with all the same sophistication and technology applied to Bowflex's leading products.

Key Features & Specifications

The Bowflex SelectTech 1090 Single Dumbbell has an operational weight range of 10lbs to 90lbs, which is an incredible span of weights for a single dumbbell. This is achieved by the unique and patented "dial technology" - which uses magnetic pins to ensure the correct weight combination is used.

In addition to this broad weight range, the product also has 17 individual weight settings, allowing for precise increments to be used, instead of large weight gaps which are often discovered on other products.

Other key features include:

Ability to perform heavy leg lifts with these dumbbells.
4 Step Rep DVD is included with the purchase
5 pound increments for weight combinations

Key Benefits

Owners of the Bowflex SelectTech 1090 Single Dumbbell always comment on the ease and simplicity that the special "dial technology" allows for them to change the weight combination. This is in fact one of the key selling points for the Bowflex dumbbell range. Other than this however, users have also commented on the incredible weight range available in this single dumbbell. Indeed, 10lbs to 90lbs is a broader range than is available with similarly priced single adjustable dumbbells on the market.

Storage is also a key benefit. Each and every single piece of exercise equipment you add to your home gym can take up additional space. Whilst the difference in space requirements between a single dumbbell and a set of dumbbells may not seem like much, apartment and condo owners will be sure to tell you that this is a huge convenience and a major selling point for this single dumbbell.

Negative Aspects and Potential Downsides

There has been a lot of discussion surrounding the change in handle design with this latest SelectTech 1090 product. Previous dumbbells had a rubber grip attached to the handle which had obvious benefits. The SelectTech 1090 has been manufactured without this grip, and no substitute has been put in its place. Therefore, some users have complained that the metal grip is insufficient at higher weights, and provides an avenue for discomfort.

Other users deny this is an issue - so it may in fact be a matter of personal preference.
